As You Lay Dying
A short game I made in Bitsy. It's loosely based around the poem "Annabelle Lee" by Edgar Allen Poe. It's really not as drab as the title makes it sound.
(Also there's a "secret" alternate ending if the original isn't the outcome you wanted.)

Almost forgot to mention this...
I found a defunct exit here
which leads here
for you to know =)
Very nice game! At starting point i wasn't expecting so much story, places and NPCs. I enjoyed the kind of dark humor here and there... And oh my, is that dungeon huge! Lost feeling works pretty well. I could use a devlog about its building ;) Overall a great Bitsy experience. Quarter to half an hour worth of my time. Thank you for making this!
P.S: couldn't find the secret ending... though i delivered everything to everyone. Any hint?
Thank you so much! That's all really high praise. I was afraid people wouldn't like how dialogue heavy it is or how potentially confusing the dungeon can be so I'm glad you enjoyed both.
If you just want a hint about how to get the secret ending then talk to Slimedrop (the slime that gives you the third flower) for a second time and he'll do just that.
Otherwise...
--Spoiler I guess--
To get the secret ending you need to deliver all six items (the three cups of tea and the three flowers) to the people who want them and then (before you go down to the center beach area) talk to the cat outside of the house where you get the first cup of tea. There was a glitch that would prevent this from working if you talked to the flower guy twice but it's been fixed along with that broken exit in the dungeon (thanks for pointing that out btw).
--Spoiler end--
And the dungeon was kind of a slog to make since I'm still new to Bitsy but basically it came down to mapping the whole thing out on a piece of paper and painstakingly adding in all the exits and entrances. Kind of tedious but I think worth it in the end. There are a couple of LoZ Lost Woods type passages that lead different place depending on which side you enter through and a never ending hallway. Both were made with one way exits. So you go through one way and pop out on the other side and if you turned around and went right back through you'd actually be using a 2nd one way exit that puts you someplace else.
But yeah, thanks for playing and for the feedback and bug report. Also, sorry you had to wait 5 months to get a reply.
This is so incredible. I love how you were able to add humorous moments without it being too distracting from the overall melancholy mood. Excellent work!! 🍵
Thank you! I'm glad to hear the two tones weren't at odds with each other. I'm also glad to hear you found my humor humorous. :)
wow i like this a lot, it's really pretty!
Thanks so much! :)
